When using your resume to present yourself, the recruiter doesn't know you and is very unfamiliar with your personality, your traits, your skills and your qualifications. Introducing yourself to a potential employer with the delivery of your resume is very much like a first date. You wouldn't say anything too bizarre so as to make a good impression. You want that person to know you are nice, reliable, professional.
Then why on earth do some job-seekers insist on having a weird email address? I come across these every day and as someone with a good sense of humour, I can relate to the reasons why you might create an amusing and catchy email address. However, the job seeking world is very different. You need to ensure the recruiter is going to take you seriously and knows that you are taking this career opportunity very seriously. You need to demonstrate that you know there is a time and place for everything and having a 'lazyboy' email address in a job application is not the time to be proud of your lazy attributes.
Get rid of the lazy, sexy or dorky references in your email address. They do not make good impressions. Hotmail is free, so there is absolutely no excuse. Get online now and create an email address consisting of your name and not much more. Why not have two email addresses? One for your friends and family and another for your job seeking endeavours!
