A cover letter is rarely read! Recruiters will often glance at or skim over a cover letter!  Then why does Career Origin encourage the use of cover letters?  And why do recruiters request one if they don't intend to read it? Commonly it is a request to gauge whether you can follow instructions!  And it is expected to be short introduction. We are not saying don't use cover letters!  Just be aware what purpose they serve!
